Position: Sexual Assault Advocate (PREA)

(5% pay differential for fluent Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Hindi, or Tagalog bilingual language skills)

We are currently seeking a Sexual Assault Advocate for the PREA program.

General

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Lead PREA Advocate, the Sexual Assault Advocate for the PREA program (Prison Rape Elimination Act) will provide crisis counseling and advocacy to incarcerated survivors within Santa Rita Jail in accordance with OES-SA requirements. Also coordinate and co-facilitate sexual assault support groups and art groups within jail and/or prison facilities.

General Requirements

Bachelor's degree preferred with one year's experience working with survivors of sexual assault. One-year experience in a non-profit setting. Knowledge of issues surrounding survivors of sexual assault, basic de-escalation skills and the ability to work independently, manage time and tasks effectively. Knowledge of violence toward women and children’s issues. Bilingual/ Fluent Spanish preferred. Completion of agency provided 70-hour DV/SA training within 6 months of employment.

Applicants must be comfortable working in a jail setting. Must pass the Santa Rita background clearance process.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY CLIENT ADVOCACY

Respond to calls from Santa Rita jail from incarcerated survivors seeking support and advocacy. Conduct weekly art therapy groups.

Build and maintain a good working relationship with deputies and staff at the jail to ensure smooth delivery of services.

Adhere to all PREA program guidelines and protocols while accessing the jail facilities.

Respond to crisis line calls relating to sexual assault, assess to determine appropriate services. Provide similar support to community clients in person when needed.

Respond to SART (sexual assault response team) calls within the agency’s service area as needed and provide advocacy to survivors at the hospital or police station.

Accompany clients to social service, court and other appointments, as needed

Provide ongoing advocacy and case management services to sexual assault clients and their significant others in the community, within the jail system, and at Tri-Valley Haven sites.

Enter services provided in the client database for reporting purposes.

Serve as back-up staff to ensure continuous delivery of services.

DEPARTMENTAL DUTIES

Assist with prevention education classes in local area middle, high schools and within the community as needed

Participate in conducting staff in-service training across the agency. (CEUs)

Assist with special events coordination, such as Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Domestic Violence Awareness Month Activities.

Assist with outreach and tabling events to increase visibility of Tri Valley Haven services.

Schedule and complete one ride-along per year with officers from local law enforcement agencies.

GENERAL TASKS

Maintain Sexual Assault Advocate Status by attending at least 8 in-service trainings per year and provide advocacy services as needed in conjunction with community presentations.

Participate in agency meetings and special events as needed.

Must have an insured automobile that employee will use as necessary for agency related business, including transportation of clients.

Must maintain a good Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) to be able to drive for the agency.
