Seasonal Lifeguard

Overview

GENERAL

SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Director of Aquatics, the Lifeguard is responsible for supervising the pool and swimmers to ensure pool rules are followed and safety is a top priority.

• Supervise the activities of swimmers by consistently enforcing rules and regulations.
• Notify swimmers of improper activities or hazards.
• Rescue persons in distress or in danger of drowning when indicated and provide rescue breathing, CPR and First Aid.
• Notify Aquatics Director of any accidents, rescues, or problems.
• Report to the Aquatic Director any equipment that is in need of repair.
• Answer inquiries pertaining to the use of the pool and Aquatics services offered.
• Direct all helpful suggestions from participants and others to Aquatic Director or Club Management.
• Attend all staff meetings and trainings.
• Available to work weekdays, weekends and holidays as needed as hours are not guaranteed and can change at any time.
• Be on time for shifts and rotations; wear uniform, sunscreen, Rescue Tubes and First Aid pack; check contents daily.
• Help keep pool deck clean, safe and organized.
• Follow all safety procedures and precautions; provide high quality customer service.

• Skills, Knowledge, Experience &
  
  Education:
  • Current Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR, AED & First Aid certifications.
  • Knowledge of water hazards, lifesaving techniques and first aid; recognize hazardous situations; adopt effective courses of action.
  • Effective communication skills and positive engagement with membership.
  • Ability to recognize swimmers in distress or unsafe behaviors from visual and audible cues.
  • Proficient swimming ability and proper application of rescue and first-aid techniques.
  • Ability to extract victims from the pool to the deck.
  • Oral comprehension and expression to understand and convey ideas clearly.

• Work is typically outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays; flexible and adaptable to changes in schedule.
• Daily public contact; may involve dealing with difficult situations.
• Frequent use of hands; ability to climb/balance; occasional kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and maneuver in emergency situations; good vision is required.
• Mobility around and in the pool area.

• This position may be assigned or re-assigned duties and responsibilities at management’s discretion.
• Estimated Base Pay Range: $17.50 / hour.
