Position Summary The Lab Technician plays a key role in supporting American Cementing’s field operations by conducting tests on cement, fluids, and oilfield chemicals according to established procedures. This position ensures test results are accurate, well-documented, and presented in a clear, organized format for internal and client use. The role also involves maintaining lab safety, equipment, cleanliness, and inventory.
Key Responsibilities Perform lab tests involving cement, water, and oilfield chemicals using standardized procedures.
Operate laboratory equipment such as:
Cement consistometers
Rheometers/viscometers
Ovens, water baths
Fluid flow apparatus
Water and analytical testing kits
Mix chemicals and fluids for testing; prepare rock and solid samples.
Record all test data, calculations, and observations clearly in lab notebooks and digital databases.
Create plots, graphs, and visuals from test data for client reports.
Capture and process images and videos as needed for documentation.
Compile data and observations into organized, client-ready reports.
Ensure all data is accurately logged, securely stored, and backed up according to company policy.
Maintain traceability of all samples through proper labeling and storage.
Perform other duties as assigned to support operational and organizational goals.
Qualifications Education & Experience High School Diploma or equivalent required.
2–3 years of laboratory experience working with sensitive instruments and testing procedures.
PEC Safeland USA Certification preferred, but not required.
Skills & Knowledge Strong analytical and mathematical capabilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
Critical Tasks / Performance Goals Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.
Monitor and reorder lab supplies and chemicals as needed.
Properly store all chemicals and maintain inventory logs.
Calibrate and maintain lab instruments to ensure reliability.
Wear appropriate PPE and ensure safety gear is available for team members and guests.
Work independently and collaboratively to complete assigned tasks and projects.
Assist team members with short- and long-term testing initiatives.
Communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers regarding workload, progress, and available for extended hours or weekend work as needed.
Work Environment & Physical Demands Regular exposure to moving machinery, outdoor weather conditions, diesel fumes, chemicals, dust, and moderate to loud noise levels, depending on work location.
Must be able to frequently lift, lower, carry, and move materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Requires frequent walking, standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, crouching, and working at ground level for extended periods.
Must be able to climb and descend ladders, steps, platforms, and equipment while maintaining balance and stability.
Requires sufficient manual dexterity and fine motor coordination to operate tools, manipulate small parts, assemble and disassemble components, and perform maintenance or operational tasks.
Requires the physical stamina to perform repetitive physical activities throughout the workday while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators and other required safety equipment, as applicable.
