Instruction/Curriculum Certified

TITLE:

SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER (PRE-KINDERGARTEN SELF CONTAINED)

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Hold a New Jersey instructional certificate and other appropriate subject area and Special Education endorsement(s) (N.J.A.C. 6:11-6.1, 6.2, or 8.1, 8.3 et seq.) in accordance with the requirements of N.J.S.A. 18A:27.1 et seq., and N.J.A.C. Title 6 Chapter 11.

* Have excellent experience in teaching and working with children.

* Demonstrated knowledge of content field and describe ways in which the content can be organized into lessons for students.

* Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning.

* Exhibit positive interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community.

* Ability to maintain a positive learning environment

* Strong interpersonal and communication skills

* Current residency in New Jersey, approved residency waiver or candidate agrees to obtain residency within one year of employment

* Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and concisely in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.

* Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative. Demonstrate the ability to use electronic equipment for work processing, data management, information retrieval, visual presentations, and telecommunications.

* Provide proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status by completing Federal Form I-9 in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.

* Provide evidence that a criminal record history check has been conducted and clearance has been given by the Department of Education. During the initial six month period provide a sworn statement that the individual has not been convicted of a crime or a disorderly person's offense in accordance with 18A:6- 7.1.

* Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation pursuant to 42 U.S.C. 12101 and in accordance with N.J.A.C. 6:3-4A.4

* Pass the state required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test as required by N.J.A.C. 6:3-4A.4.

* Meet such alternates to the above qualifications, as the Superintendent may deem appropriate, acceptable and legal.

JOB GOAL:

Assumes professional responsibility for providing learning experiences and supervision of assigned students in a supportive and positive classroom climate that develops in each child the skills, attitudes, and knowledge to meet and exceed the State Core Curriculum Content Standards, following the approved curricula and directives of the school. In addition, teachers will strive to meet the highly effective criteria for the preparation of lesson plans, the use of data to drive instruction, the delivering of quality instruction, addressing the needs of diverse learners through differentiation, classroom environment, leadership, and professionalism.

Achieving academic excellence requires that the teacher work collaboratively with other members of the school staff and with parents of each child.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Establish high standards and expectations for all students for academic performance and responsibility for behavior.

* Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel, and other agencies associated with the school.

* Provides instruction to classified pupils in accordance with each pupil's individualized education program.

* Works cooperatively with regular education teaching staff to coordinate instructional activities and to monitor the progress of each pupil and provides support instruction in the regular classroom or resource center as assigned.

* Provides home instruction to confined special education pupils as assigned.

* Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction to meet the needs of each pupil.

* Consults with members of the child study team regarding each pupil's educational program, academic program and personal growth.

* Meets at least once annually with the case manager, parents and other professional staff to review and revise the individualized education program and placement of each assigned pupil.

* Plan and implement sequential learning experiences, based on the use of data, for students in the content area for which the teacher is certified, using a variety of instructional strategies that are consistent with the district and school's philosophy, mission statement,…
