The Associate Fire Alarm System Designer applies engineering principles to every design to meet code and customer requirements; review product specifications and performance requirements to determine designs that can be installed in customer facilities; interface with Auto Cad (ACAD) drafters, project managers and sales, and support their various needs. The person in this role follows all quality procedures that relate to design, engineering, and drafting.
* Design systems in accordance with NFPA and project specifications. Participate in the review process with other design team members and drafters, as requested by management.
* Using software such as Auto Cad, develop floor plans, riser diagrams, schematics, system power calculations, and control panel layouts.
* Review all designs before submitting for approval to ensure they meet Sciens quality standard and code requirements.
* Follow all Sciens policies and procedures during daily work activities.
* Work independently or with others as a team to complete all tasks and related design functions. Routinely work with sales and project managers to ensure the most efficient design while maintaining the highest quality standards.
* Assist and provide feedback to the sales and project managers for organizing, planning, and prioritizing work.
* Assist management in developing and implementing a quality service program to increase efficiencies and proficiencies for the design and engineering department.
* Assist management by advising drafters to ensure that their goals and objectives are met.
- Up to two years of experience designing commercial fire detection systems.
- Strong working knowledge of fire protection codes and operations.
- Strong working knowledge of Auto Cad and other software programs required to perform job.
- Ability to read and interpret fire alarm project drawings and specifications.
- Strong leadership and time management skills; and the ability to multi-task.
- Strong social skills, specifically in the areas of service, coordination, persuasion, and instruction.
- Technical skills, and an understanding of fire suppression and security design.
