Plymouth Family Resource Center Preschool Teacher Assistant
EdAdvance is seeking a qualified applicant to assist in teaching preschool children in the Plymouth Family Resource Center, Terryville, CT. As a Teacher Assistant, you will play a critical role in providing preschool children with a nurturing and stimulating learning environment. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting the classroom teachers in implementing developmentally appropriate activities for children aged 3 to 5, promoting school readiness in language, literacy, cognition, social studies, mathematics, science, the arts, social emotional skills and physical development.
Major Responsibilities:
- Support the lead and assistant teachers in implementing daily classroom activities, routines, and learning experiences.
- Prepare and organize educational materials, art supplies, and learning centers to support classroom instruction.
- Provide classroom coverage as a substitute teacher as needed.
- Supervise children during indoor and outdoor play while maintaining a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment.
- Assist children with daily care routines, including handwashing, toileting, dressing, mealtimes, and nap time.
- Provide one-on-one and/or small-group support, including individualized behavioral and emotional regulation strategies, while encouraging children's social, emotional, language, and cognitive development.
- Observe children's behavior and developmental progress, reporting concerns and milestones to the teaching team.
- Model positive behavior, conflict resolution, and respectful communication to promote a positive classroom environment.
- Follow all Early Start CT and NAEYC regulations, school policies, and emergency procedures, and communicate professionally with parents and caregivers under the guidance of the lead teacher.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- High School Diploma
- Ability to develop effective relationships and excellent interpersonal skills with children, families, and co-workers.
- Maintain confidentiality about issues related to children and their families.
- Regular and consistent attendance is considered an essential function of this job.
- Physical Requirements:
Ability to position oneself to bend and lift up to 30lbs. Arrange classroom furniture based on needs of children and curriculum.
