The Life Enrichment Therapy Assistant assists in a program of recreational activities for residents based on the comprehensive assessment and care plan and the preferences of each resident.

Responsibilities
  • Assists residents with recreational programs to support their choice of activities, designed to meet the interest of and support the physical, mental, and psychosocial well‑being of each resident encouraging both independence and interaction in the community.
  • Documents daily attendance in a timely manner.
  • Implements therapeutic programming based on the individual needs of the residents in accordance with State and Federal regulations and provides recommendations to Life Enrichment Supervisor and Life Enrichment Lead regarding programming.
  • Provides one to one therapeutic programs to individual residents who are unable to participate in group settings based on Life Enrichment Supervisor and Life Enrichment Lead recommendations.
  • Attends professional in‑services for continuing education and to facilitate departmental knowledge and growth.
  • Assumes responsibility for residents during activities outside the facility; professional represents the facility when implementing community resource programs.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement activities as assigned.
  • Responsible for general appearance of units as needed.
  • Distributes resident mail and newspapers.
  • May perform other duties or assignments per facility needs.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma.
  • Secure and maintain in good standing a valid Driver’s License in the State of WI.
  • Functional understanding of medical terminology.
  • Good personal communication and organization skills. Interacts positively with community providers and the general public; performs duties with consideration for residents, peers, other employees and visitors.
  • Organizational skills necessary to assume responsibility for planning and carrying out activity programs.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Word & Excel and Point Click Care. Must have the ability to create posters, spreadsheets and other documents as required. Must have proficient keyboarding skills and computer knowledge.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal/leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of ability to initiate, implement and instruct general group activities for special needs populations, i.e. exercise, handicrafts, discussion groups, music groups.
  • Knowledge and understanding of State and Federal nursing home regulations.
  • Understanding of intervention/prevention methods for interacting with those populations with physical, cognitive and/or emotional disabilities.
  • Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions. Attention to detail as well as ability to focus on resident needs and daily tasks is essential to this position.
  • Ability to understand and comply with federal, state, and facility safety regulations. Knowledge of all Center Safety Protocols as it relates to this position.
Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.

This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift or move objects and patients weighing over 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

The employee must be able to drive a vehicle, escort residents, and/or large crowds to a variety of different places in the county.

Risk of blood borne pathogen exposure is considered high.
