As our team at SME continues to grow, we are looking to add an additional Billing Specialist to the team. In this role, you will be an integral part of our project team by providing billing preparation services on client invoices and working within our Accounting Services group in our Plymouth, Michigan headquarters office.

The ideal candidate will be a smart, motivated, highly organized, and hardworking professional able to work under tight deadlines in the fast-paced Architecture/Engineering/Construction industry.

Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of routine and non-routine moderately complex billing functions. Prepare timely and accurate billing for designated projects in accordance with contractual agreements and within defined billing cycles or client deadlines, ensuring that all billing is internally approved and sent to clients on schedule, attaching all necessary backup.
  • Prepare and submit final invoice packages, including cover pages, applications for payment, lien waivers, and other applicable backup. Distribute invoices to external clients through various distribution platforms e.g., email, and client portal uploads.
  • Ensure accurate and complete project registrations. Validate billing requirements, rates, due dates, contract numbers and basic services provided.
  • Research and resolve routine and non-routine billing questions and discrepancies.
  • Answer calls/emails from internal and external clients relating to billing, accounts receivable, payments, etc.
  • Perform daily cash activities to include recording of cash receipts and processing associated lien waivers.
Requirements
  • A minimum of two (2) years of related experience in billing and accounting preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external business partners and employees at all levels within the organization.
  • Excellent organizational skills, being detailed-oriented, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proven work in an accounts receivable, accounting or administrative role
  • Must have excellent computer skills and be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Position requires occasional overtime and dedication to excellent customer service.
