Overview
Ivywood Classical Academy is a tuition-free public school that educates students using a virtues-based and rigorous classical education tradition. The classical curriculum is time-tested, research-based, and proven to develop thoughtful, caring, educated, freethinking young adults. The curriculum emphasizes an education in the humanities, sciences, and arts, and integrates Spanish and Latin language to promote depth in learning. To coordinate and work with the school's special education team, central office Special Education, and Regional Educational Service Authority (RESA) teams to facilitate special education and 504 services and advocate for students with disabilities.
Essential Performance ResponsibilitiesSPECIAL EDUCATION AND SECTION 504:
- Monitor Special Education staff caseloads in accordance with RESA compliance
- Ensure IEP and Section 504 timeline compliance with caseloads
- Maintain knowledge of current Special Education regulations and specially designed instruction best practices
- Support general education teachers and administrators in the implementation of appropriate strategies to meet the needs of students with IEPs
- Support implementation of accommodations and modifications for students with IEPs in the general education classroom and during Special Education service time
- Analyze assessment results and special education data in collaboration with school-based teams to inform instructional decisions, service delivery, and IEP development
- Develop and assist with appropriate behavior management techniques for students with IEPs and Section 504s
- Communicate and collaborate with the school leaders and behavior interventionists regarding student discipline
- Monitor IEPs in accordance with federal, state, and district standards
- Analyze Special Education documentation as required by federal, state, and district regulations
- Facilitate a positive rapport with RESA/ISD
- Facilitate and organize Manifestation Determination Review meetings
- Train on special education systems to ensure staff are knowledgeable with systems (MIPSE)
- Support building-level special education team lead
- Lead and plan high-quality professional development
- Provide Special Education training and support aligned to the school's classical instructional model and expectations, ensuring students with disabilities have appropriate access to the core curriculum
- Respond to and support parent concerns related to special education and Section 504 services, fostering collaborative partnerships while ensuring procedural compliance
- Meet regularly with the Special Education Supervisor to share data-informed insights on student outcomes, instructional effectiveness, compliance status, and systemic challenges, and to align supports, interventions, and corrective actions across schools
- Support Count Day records and worksheet B paperwork
- Other special education, 504, or EL-related duties assigned by the school leader or special education supervisor.
- Attend leadership team meetings and school-level leadership meetings.
English Language Learners
- Oversee the district EL department and EL staff.
- Support the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of EL instructional programs and services.
- Guide the district in implementing evidence-based instructional strategies for English Learners across content areas.
- Provide guidance on co-teaching and language development integration within general education.
- Collaborate with curriculum leaders to align EL instruction with district curriculum and assessments.
- Ensure district compliance with federal and state requirements related to English Learners, including Title III and civil rights obligations.
