Special Education Self-Contained ASD Paraprofessional
Location:
Plymouth High School
Hours:
35 hours weekly, Monday to Friday, 7:05am to 2:35pm
Job Goal:
Provide support within a center-based classroom for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, including implementation of instructional program, assisted technology, physical needs, behavior management, toileting, and supervision duties.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Demonstrate ability to work with parents, students and support personnel.
- Good communication skills.
- Good attendance record.
- Good organization skills.
- Ability to be self-directed.
- Ability to engage in problem identification and solving.
- Ability to maintain good rapport with staff/parents/students.
- Previous experience as a one-on-one paraprofessional preferred.
- Experience working with children with health impairments preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Works in collaboration with general and special education staff to support the ASD classroom students or individual students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
- Functions under the guidance of special education teacher, and supports students' accommodations and modifications per their IEPs.
- Supports students with specific plans developed by the special education professional team.
- Assists the special education classroom teacher and support personnel in the implementation of health care, behavior, and instructional programming.
- Manages both behavioral and instructional logs.
- Maintains and implements data collection systems.
- Supports established goals and objectives for students.
- When applicable, operates equipment used in the special education program for the production of printed or other audio-visual instructional materials.
- Supervise students in the lunchroom, halls, and outside as assigned by the supervisor.
- Provides support in the areas of behavior, medical, and daily living and functional skills (i.e. toileting).
- Supervisory aide hours/responsibility is part of this position. Bending, lifting, and overhead work required.
- Provides clinic/first aid/medication support to students.
- May be assigned other tasks and duties within the special education classifications at the discretion of the building principal based on daily needs.
- Assists and performs other tasks and duties as assigned.

Evaluation:
Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the bargaining agreement guidelines.

The employee is directly responsible for safety, well-being, or work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.

Terms of Employment:
Upon recommendation for employment, Section 1230g, as amended, of the Revised School Code requires all school employees to be electronically finger printed for the purpose of undergoing a criminal history background check.
