JOB SUMMARY

We are in the process of designing an Instructional Support Program to provide tailored, academic interventions and accommodations to students in need of support. The program aims to provide all students who desire a Catholic education with the opportunity to receive the same excellent education regardless of a diagnosed learning difference. Students in this program will learn to be self advocates and independent learners through excellent instruction and support in the classroom as well as individualized time with the ISP Staff.

The Special Education Instructional Support Teacher carries a caseload of students on Non-Public Service Plans who qualify for special education. The teacher will implement accommodations, interventions, and strategies to foster academic progress for students. This individual will primarily be implementing services one-on-one with the students or in small groups for individualized instruction. It will also be required for the Support Teacher to consult with parents, teachers, our local public school system and the ISP team to develop individualized systems to help students access academic instruction.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Analyze and interpret MET data and other academic & cognitive testing results to identify appropriate, corresponding academic accommodations based upon student strengths and weaknesses.
• Provide direct individual or small-group support to assigned students on Non-Public Support Plan.
• Support students with executive functioning, organization, attention, task completion, classroom participation, and self-advocacy.
• Implement accommodations and instructional supports identified in student plans, including NPSPs or other school-approved support plans.
• Help students access classroom assignments, manage workload, and build independence.
• Reinforce classroom expectations and support students in applying strategies taught by classroom teachers.
• Provide testing accommodations, such as extended time, small-group or individual testing, directions read aloud, and other approved supports.
• Adapt materials or activities as appropriate to help students access classroom instruction.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers regarding student progress, accommodations, and classroom needs.
• Maintain brief service notes documenting student support and progress.
• Communicate relevant student observations to the Special Education Consultant and/or designated school administrator, counselor of Instructional Support Team member.
• Integrate a variety of materials and assistive technology applications into the learning environment appropriate to the unique learning style and educational ability of students.
• Ensure implementation of student accommodations and document accordingly.
• Maintain records of student goals, interventions, objectives, and student progress data.
• When requested, attend other departmental and planning meetings or with MTSS and parent meetings as needed throughout the school year.
• Maintain student confidentiality and follow all school policies and professional standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Education or the equivalent.
• Current Michigan Teaching certificate with Special Education endorsement(s).
• Understanding of Michigan Administrative Rules of Special Education (MARSE), Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, and Americans with Disabilities Act.
