Minimum Qualifications:
High School graduate or equivalent. Must meet Highly Qualified status:
Associates degree or higher, or 60 college credit hours, or Passed the Work Keys test or the ETS Parapro Assessment Experience working with school-age children in an educational setting. Knowledge of EL methods. Bilingual candidates must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English. Strong organizational skills. Ability to work cooperatively with building staff and parents. Ability to work with a flexible schedule.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists in screening students for eligibility. Assists teacher in designing and implementing data-driven individual learning plans based on English Language Proficiency standards. Supports classroom learning and English Language Proficiency Standards under the direction of the teacher in small groups or with individual students. Assists students with classroom assignments as directed by the teacher. Provides and interprets cultural information to facilitate diversity and cultural understanding within the school community.
Provides assistance with parent/school communication. Attends meetings and activities relevant to the EL program and assigned elementary schools as directed. Handles compliance documentation as directed by EL Director. Travels to different sites to assist students. Bending, lifting, and overhead work required. Assists and performs other tasks and duties as assigned. May support student supervision. Provides clinic/first aid/medication support to students.
