Overview

MTI is seeking a motivated Project Engineer II for the Calibration team. Candidates must have 3‑5+ years postgraduate experience in internal combustion engine emissions and OBD calibration, strong communication skills, and be authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis. This position will directly interface with the customer and internal teams. The role is not visa‑sponsored.

Responsibilities
  • Define, plan, and perform engine, powertrain calibration and other relevant engineering project work within the project team as required.
  • Plan and manage engineering resources according to project requirements.
  • Work on specific phases or aspects of projects such as technical studies, preparation of specifications, technical plans, engine testing, vehicle testing, data analysis, and validation.
  • Support data quality, write technical project reports.
  • Review projects for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer requirements.
  • Coordinate activities related to technical development, scheduling, and resolving engineering test issues.
  • Define, execute and support research and development activities.
  • Participate in customer meetings.
  • Communicate test results, progress, and issues to project team and customer.
  • Participate in powertrain calibration development trips as required.
  • Perform any other duties required to ensure project success.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: 3‑5+ years of relevant experience; exposure to automaker practices.
  • Technical

    Skills:

    • Thorough understanding of internal combustion engines and powertrain vehicle systems functionality.
    • Basic understanding of IC engine emissions controls components, after‑treatment systems, and functionality.
    • Powertrain calibration development experience achieving automotive tailpipe emissions standards.
  • OBD Calibration:
    • Monitoring of CCM, catalyst, misfire, EGR, AFRIM, HEGO, etc.
    • OBD self‑cert demonstration, documentation, statistics, and reporting (green, 4 km, full useful life, OBD limit components, WPA and BPU, in‑use monitor performance).
  • Additional

    Skills:

    • Optimization of powertrain calibration to meet fuel economy and emissions objectives.
    • Support vehicle development trips for hot, cold, and high‑altitude environments.
    • Effective operation in a professional testing environment.
    • Experience with Etas INCA, ATI Vision, Vector CANape/CANalyzer.
    • Ability to interpret C code and navigate other software description aids.
    • Microsoft Office competency (required).
