Position: INGENIERO/A HW POTENCIA PARA SECTOR AERONAUTICO

Ingeteam Power Hardware Engineer For Aerospace Sector

Ingeteam, a leading company specialized in electrical engineering and the development of electrical equipment, motors, generators, and frequency converters, is looking to incorporate a Power Hardware Engineer for the Aerospace Sector in its Zamudio facilities.

Your mission will be to design and validate power hardware for electric propulsion systems and energy conversion. Specifically, for the development of the power stage (power stage) associated with DC/AC inverters for electric motors and DC/DC converters, including the selection of semiconductors (Si/SiC/GaN), magnet isms, associated sensing, thermal design, and EMC/EMI considerations from early phases.

You will integrate into the R&D area of the company within a multidisciplinary group focused on aeronautical systems.

Your main functions will be:

  • Analyze the state of the art in aeronautical power electronics (topologies, WBG semiconductors, drivers, magnet isms, cooling), to subsequently and based on requirements lead the design of concept, schematics, selection of components, manufacturing, validation, and final tests of:
  • DC/AC inverters (2/3 levels, multiphase, etc.) for electric motor.
  • DC/DC converters (isolated and non-isolated: LLC, PSFB, DAB, interleaved, etc.) for electrical distribution.
  • Analyze customer specifications, breaking down the specification and defining the requirements applicable to the design of power hardware. Management of requirements ensuring traceability against design, analysis, and verification tests.
  • Define and justify the power architecture (voltages/currents, isolation levels, protection strategy and derating), including calculations of losses/efficiency and sizing of critical components.
  • Design schematics and participate in power layout (high current paths, minimization of parasitic inductances, control of dv/dt and di/dt, insulation/creepage/clearance distances, barriers, shielding), taking into account manufacturing recommendations and EMC rules.
  • Select and size:
  • Semiconductors (MOSFET/IGBT/SiC/GaN), diodes, snubbers, clamp circuits. Gate drivers (isolated/non-isolated), driver power supply, DESAT protection, soft shutdown, Miller clamp, etc.
  • Magnet isms (inductors, transformers), DC-link capacitors (film/electrolytic), current/voltage sensors (Hall, shunt, fluxgate, Rogowski), contractors/precharge if applicable.
  • Design and coordinate the thermal system: estimation of losses, design of dissipation (heatsink, cold plate, thermal interfaces), cooling requirements (air/liquid), and support to thermal simulations with the corresponding equipment.
  • Define and execute (or coordinate) protection strategies: OCP/SCP, OVP, UVLO, OTP, driver failure, shoot-through, isolation, DC bus discharges, transient management, robustness against failures.
  • Plan and execute the validation and verification of the power stage: functional tests, efficiency, thermal, SOA, transients, EMI/EMC characterization, and support to environmental tests (DO-160) when applicable.
  • Manage design changes and collaborate with other departments (control, firmware, mechanical, systems, quality, and certification) to agree on changes considering the impact on requirements and tests.
  • Procure critical components (lead-times, alternatives, obsolescence) and follow up on manufacturing/assembly until obtaining prototypes and functional units.
  • Draft technical documentation: internal specifications, design justifications (calculations/derating), test reports, and support for customer/certification audits.

Minimum requirements:

  • Degree in Electronic/Industrial/Telecommunications Engineering or similar.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in power electronics design in the aeronautical, automotive, rail, or high-demand industrial sector.
  • Proven experience in DC/DC converters and/or DC/AC inverters (three-phase), including sizing, component selection, and prototype commissioning.
  • Knowledge of:
Power semiconductors (IGBT/MOSFET) and wide bandgap (SiC/GaN): selection criteria, switching, losses, gate driving, and mitigation of ringing/EMI. EMI/EMC in power electronics: input/output filters, common/differential modes, shielding, layout…
