Job Description
The Engineering Intern role offers an excellent opportunity to learn and develop within a collaborative environment alongside experienced engineering professionals. Interns will gain exposure to complete automotive seating systems while developing technical, product design, problem-solving, and communication skills. This position works closely with engineering and program teams to support program execution, product development activities, and customer-facing engineering requirements.

This position works closely with engineering and program teams to support program execution, product development activities, and customer-facing engineering requirements.

Schedule:Full-time, 40 hours per week
Key Responsibilities- Support the resolution of design issues utilizing the Basic Engineering Process (BEP) and lean engineering principles.
- Develop and present A3 problem-solving reports during weekly and executive design reviews.
- Collaborate with Subject Matter Technical Experts (SMTEs) to gain exposure to the product development process.
- Support issue resolution and on-time execution of Design Validation (DV) and Product Validation (PV) testing activities, including coordinating test schedules, seat builds, and teardown activities.
- Assist with customer and DV/PV test builds at the Plymouth Technical Center.
- Gain exposure to Design for Assembly and Manufacturing (DFAM) principles and the relationship between engineering design and manufacturing processes.
- Develop an understanding of seat system regulations, durability requirements, strength testing, and tactical project planning.
- Support Design for Cost initiatives by evaluating engineering design changes in CAD and understanding the potential cost implications of those changes.
- Participate in cross-functional collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and customers to support program objectives.
- Currently enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Available to work onsite, full-time (40 hours per week) during the internship period.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Previous internship, co-op, or project experience within the automotive industry.
- Experience with CAD software, including CATIA and/or Siemens NX (Unigraphics).
- Ability to work effectively with customers, suppliers, and cross-functional development teams.
- Hands-on experience supporting automotive seating product development.
- Exposure to industry-leading engineering processes and technologies.
