Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) - Plymouth, MI

Intertek, a nationally recognized testing laboratory (NRTL) and a leading provider of quality and safety solutions, is actively seeking a Certified Welding Inspector to join its Professional Services Industries Inc. (Intertek-PSI) team in Plymouth, MI. This role offers an opportunity to grow a versatile career in the architectural, engineering, and construction (A/E/C) industry.

• Ensure compliance with safety and environmental guidelines, policies, and regulations.
• Test and inspect structural steel during erection on general building and pipeline sites, and occasionally on plant sites.
• Inspect general construction and structural steel erection for buildings.
• Perform visual inspections on welded products in progress and completed jobs.
• Inspect welding jobs for defects such as cracks, porosity, undercut, etc.
• Record results of tests and welding inspections.
• Create and follow up on non-conformances until close-out.
• Plan and conduct analysis, inspection, test, and/or integration to assure the quality of assigned product or component.
• Review all welded products or components and provide input on acceptance or rejection decisions.
• Document data obtained during all quality assurance activities, consistent with company policies and procedures.
• Communicate significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and recommend process improvements to management.
• Inspect, test, or measure materials, products, installations, or work for conformance to specifications.
• Measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications using measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers.
• Operate testing equipment and conduct testing (e.g., soil, concrete) and provide assessment of data through reporting.
• Operate a calculator to calculate mathematical test results.
• Adhere to safety practices and policies to ensure personal safety and the safety of others.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification with D1.1 experience.
• Minimum of four years of relevant experience.
• Ability to read blueprints, understand, and interpret tolerances.
• Computer skills:
  Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to receive, understand, and execute written and verbal instructions.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work well independently and with others.
• Capability to work off-shifts and overtime as required.
• Ability to test concrete and compaction.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record.

• Technical degree in welding.
• Experience in construction materials testing.
