Chemical Dynamics LLC is seeking a recent graduate or early-career professional with a background in materials science, polymer science, coatings technology, chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field.
The successful candidate will support the development of advanced functional materials, surface-engineered particles, polymer systems, paints, and coatings. The position will involve laboratory-scale synthesis, material processing, formulation development, analytical testing, performance evaluation, process optimization, and technical documentation.
Essential Functions- 1.Conduct laboratory-scale synthesis, surface treatment, and functional modification of inorganic and organic materials.
- 2.Prepare and evaluate functional powders, mineral-based materials, pigments, dispersions, slurries, polymer formulations, paints, and experimental coatings.
- 3.Assist in optimizing material compositions and processing parameters, including raw-material selection, addition sequence, concentration, pH, mixing conditions, reaction time, temperature, and drying conditions.
- 4.Operate laboratory reactors, mixers, disperse rs, filtration and separation systems, ultrasonic equipment, ovens, mills, and blending equipment.
- 5.Conduct standard and specialized laboratory testing, including viscosity, Zahn cup, ICI viscosity, Brookfield viscosity, density, pH, solids content, particle size, gloss, color, tint strength, hiding, dry time, adhesion, hardness, impact resistance, abrasion resistance, and corrosion performance.
- 6.Prepare samples for analytical characterization using techniques such as FTIR, TGA, DSC, XRF, SEM-EDS, and particle-size analysis.
- 7.Evaluate the chemical, physical, mechanical, and optical properties of experimental materials, paints, and coatings.
- 8.Follow established laboratory procedures, experimental plans, safety requirements, and applicable ASTM test methods.
- 9.Accurately document formulations, experimental procedures, observations, calculations, test results, and conclusions in laboratory notebooks and technical reports.
- 10.Analyze and interpret experimental data, identify performance trends, and recommend appropriate next steps.
- 11.Investigate problems related to materials, formulations, processing conditions, test procedures, or laboratory equipment and assist in identifying potential causes and corrective actions.
- 12.Support the scale-up and transfer of successful laboratory processes to larger-scale production.
- 13.Order raw materials and request laboratory supplies as needed for assigned projects.
- 14.Clean, organize, and maintain laboratory equipment and work areas.
- 15.Communicate project progress, technical findings, and potential concerns to project leaders and other team members.
- 16.Maintain the confidentiality of proprietary formulations, materials, processes, research activities, and customer information.
- · Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Materials Science, Polymer Science, Coatings Technology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Inorganic Chemistry, or a related field.
- · Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
- · One or more years of academic research, internship, or industrial laboratory experience is preferred.
- · Experience with material synthesis, particle surface modification, mineral fillers, pigments, dispersions, polymer formulations, paints, or coatings is desirable.
- · Experience with design of experiments, statistical analysis, or laboratory process optimization is an advantage.
Skills and Abilities
- 1.Working knowledge of chemistry, materials science, polymer chemistry, surface chemistry, and basic mathematics.
