Summary
The Prep Cook/Utility will assist in the preparation of meals by chopping vegetables, making salads and putting together entrees. Although this role does not include line cooking duties, it provides an ideal opportunity to develop and use many of the skills essential to becoming a cook. Such skills include proficient use of a wide range of kitchen tools, including proper knife handling.
The Prep Cook/Utility will be responsible for receiving and properly storing food and supply shipments based on HACCP guidelines.
- Food preparation, chopping vegetables, making salads and putting together entrees.
- Ensuring food is properly received at the correct temperature and properly labeled and dated.
- Review invoices of orders being delivered, ensure items are received at the proper temperature and stock is put away within 1 hour of delivery.
- Performing kitchen maintenance, empty trash, mop floors and washing dishes.
- Learns and adheres to the designated cooking methods to assist in preparing the appropriate menu items consistently.
- Strives to improve cooking skills and expanding knowledge about food products and techniques.
- Follows all local, state and government guidelines related to food safety and sanitation.
- Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure.
- Ability to work in a team environment and take direction.
- Attends on going education and training as set by management team.
- Performs additional responsibilities as requested by management team.
Minimum of 1 year previous cook experience or 2 years of prep cook experience. Basic understanding of professional cooking and knife skills. Understanding and knowledge of safety, sanitation and food handling procedures. Professional communication skills including verbal and listening skills. Be self-motivated, organized and able to problem solve situations.
