Mott Community College is hiring a School Resource Officer-Sworn Police Officer for Mott Middle College (MMC). The MMC is a public school in Genesee County with approximately 350 students that operates on the college’s main campus.

This full‑time position will follow Mott Middle College’s schedule — hours will be primarily Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. during the school year. Once the MMC school year ends, the schedule will include 10‑hour shifts, and the hired employee must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as well as all site locations.

School Resource Officer-Police Officer Position Opening

This position is within the Department of Public Safety and is charged with creating a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The School Resource Officer‑Sworn Police Officer must meet Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) certification. This position works to educate the campus community regarding safety and security, minimize risk for the college, and enforce all college policies and procedures and enforcement of local laws and laws of the State of Michigan.

These responsibilities are performed in an ethical manner consistent with the college’s mission, vision, and values, which include diversity, equality, and inclusion. The School Resource Officer – Sworn Police Officer acts as a liaison with federal, state, and local police and fire officials.

Salary Information

The salary range for this position is $22.98 or $24.77/hour
. The salary will increase within two years to a current cap of $25.54 or $28.88/hour
. Upper variances depend on an Associate’s degree.

Position Summary

The hired applicant is responsible for enforcement duties to protect the safety and welfare of students, faculty, staff, visitors, and all property within the area under Mott Community College’s control and jurisdiction. Given the nature of the position, this position is responsible for crucial confidential data. S/he is expected to exercise sound judgment on issues that arise.

This position, under general supervision:

  • Preserves the peace
  • Protects life and property
  • Prevents and detects crimes
  • Enforces laws and ordinances
  • Maintains a public service approach towards the community and performs other job‑related duties as assigned.
  • Ensure the safety and security of the campus visitors and facilities by patrolling the campus in order to observe the conduct and activities that take place on the premises.
  • Provide information and general assistance to the students, faculty, staff, and other visitors of the college by being visible, approachable and available.
  • Serves in a public relations capacity. Conduct preliminary investigations following appropriate procedures. Document and report the outcome of the investigations.
Required School Resource Sworn Police Officer Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree or employee must complete associate’s degree within sixteen (16) consecutive semesters or sessions following his/her effective date of hire (continued employment will be contingent upon successful completion of associate’s degree).
  • Graduate of a police academy.
  • Must possess current Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) licensing or be licensable prior to the job posting deadline.
  • Must maintain a valid Michigan driver’s license and have a good driving record for the past five years. A good driving record must be maintained while employed as a School Resource Officer/Sworn Police Officer.
  • Must maintain State of Michigan‑mandated firearms qualification.
  • Demonstrates dependability, reliability, professionalism, and ethical behavior.
  • Ability to work successfully in a high‑stress environment, handling multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent judgment skills in terms of interpersonal communications and ability to be flexible and adapt to changing work situations.
