We are working with a growing organization in the Plymouth area that is looking to add a Senior Project Accountant to its accounting team. This is a hands-on opportunity for someone with strong construction accounting experience who enjoys taking ownership of the accounting process, partnering with Project Managers, and helping develop a team.
The Senior Project Accountant will oversee project accounting, construction billing, WIP, job costing, and accounts payable, while also helping improve processes and create consistency across the organization.
Responsibilities- Oversee monthly construction billing, progress billings, invoices, and change orders
- Partner closely with Project Managers to resolve billing issues and ensure accurate, timely invoicing
- Lead monthly WIP and percentage-of-completion reviews
- Prepare and/or oversee WIP accounting entries, reconciliations, and month-end close activities
- Monitor project costs and help improve visibility into job profitability
- Oversee full-cycle accounts payable, including invoice processing, approvals, and payments
- Review cash, AP, and related account reconciliations as part of the monthly close
- Supervise, train, and mentor a Project Accountant and junior AP/accounting support team member
- Review work for accuracy and help establish consistent accounting and billing procedures
- Work with Project Managers and Finance to improve billing, job costing, AP, and reporting processes
- Support accounting initiatives such as AP automation, system improvements, and project workflow enhancements
- 4+ years of construction billing or project accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of WIP and percentage-of-completion accounting
- Experience with job cost accounting and project profitability
- Strong construction billing experience, including progress billings and change orders
- Experience working with an ERP and/or job-costing system
- Previous experience supervising, mentoring, or training accounting staff
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field preferred
