Daikin Applied is seeking a Staff Product Development Engineer IV (Thermal Systems) to lead new technology development and component architecture ownership in the Refrigeration Subsystem.
Location: Plymouth, MN
What you will do:- Lead new technology introduction of refrigeration subsystem‑based solutions into all DAA product applications using engineering fundamentals such as heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and mechanical analysis. Contributions fall into the following areas:
- Vapor compression refrigeration systems and cycles
- Refrigerants and lubricants
- Refrigerant flow control devices
- Positive displacement compressors (scroll and screw)
- Heat exchanger technology (shell and tube, microchannel, round tube plate fin, braze plate, etc.) sizing and performance analysis
- Develop and own a product‑based modular strategy for components within the refrigeration subsystems (all components and modules containing refrigerant). This will include working with New Product Implementation engineers across the organization to ensure the relevant subsystems are designed with appropriate requirements, interfaces, and interactions to achieve specific chiller functions.
- Provide technical leadership as an internal subject‑matter expert in thermal systems:
- Lead and mentor junior engineering team members in the development of thermal‑system competency.
- Support cross‑functional groups to effectively deploy new technologies through smooth transitions into production.
- Participate in design reviews to ensure best practices are followed and alert the product team to any risks associated with the design of thermal systems and their components.
- Represent the company’s interests in external technical groups (ASHRAE, ASME, university consortia, etc.).

- Minimum 4‑year degree in engineering or a related technical field and minimum 8 years of engineering experience.
- Experience with the thermodynamics of rooftop or split air‑conditioners, chiller systems, heat transfer, pressure vessel design, vapor compression technology, and refrigerant systems performance analysis.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills with a “team‑player” mentality.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and a high attention to detail.
- MS or PhD degree in engineering or a related technical field.

The typical annual base salary for this position ranges from $109,100–$183,200 (+15% bonus) in Minnesota. The range displayed represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade which this position falls. Individual base pay will depend on a wide range of factors including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
