Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop complete and accurate AV system designs that align with customer requirements, project scope, and industry best practices.
- Create detailed technical documentation including system schematics, signal flow diagrams, equipment lists, rack elevations, and infrastructure requirements.
- Prepare design packages utilizing platforms such as D-Tools, AutoCAD, Visio, Bluebeam, or similar software.
- Collaborate with the sales team to define technical scope and support proposal development during the pre-sales process.
- Participate in customer and internal meetings to provide technical expertise and ensure project expectations are clearly understood.
- Recommend AV technologies and equipment based on system performance needs, manufacturer standards, and project budgets.
- Coordinate with project management, installation, programming, and commissioning teams to ensure designs are accurate and ready for execution.
- Review project documentation, submittals, and shop drawings for technical accuracy and completeness.
- Maintain current knowledge of AV technologies, networking concepts, and industry trends to support high-quality system designs.
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Audio/Visual Technology, Information Technology, or a related field preferred
- Equivalent industry experience may be considered in place of formal education
- 3+ years of experience in AV system design, engineering, or related technical roles
- Strong knowledge of commercial AV technologies including video conferencing systems, distributed audio/video, control systems, and DSP signal flow
- Experience with control system platforms such as Crestron, Extron, AMX, or Q-SYS
- Proficiency with D-Tools, AutoCAD, Visio, Bluebeam, or similar design software
- Familiarity with networking concepts including IP addressing, switching, and VLANs within AV environments
- Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills
- Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to customer sites as needed
- AVIXA CTS, CTS-D, CTS-I, or manufacturer certifications are preferred
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with a proactive mindset
