Job Description
As an R&D Engineer/Scientist II at Honeywell, you will use your technical expertise to design, develop, and test innovative solutions for aerospace technology. You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to drive projects forward and help shape the future of aviation and aerospace systems. The role reports directly to the Engineering Manager and is based in Plymouth, MN on a hybrid 3‑2 schedule after an initial 90‑day onsite period.
In this role you will provide technical expertise on projects and programs in Atmospheric Sensing and LiDAR, leveraging your knowledge of lasers/optics and mechanical systems integration. You will support breakthrough product development and serve on multidisciplinary teams to perform mechanical and optical systems design, development, and integration, as well as laser alignment and maintenance. You will also support new business opportunities and pursuits with an integrated sales, business and technical team.

- Master’s degree in Engineering or a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with at least 3 years of experience (preferably in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Engineering Physics).
- 1‑2 years of experience working with lasers and optical components, including alignment, characterization, and maintenance.
- Experience integrating and troubleshooting complex systems (optical, mechanical, electrical, software).
- Ability to operate and maintain complex systems, perform data collection, and conduct system calibration and validation.
- Strong documentation skills, capturing minimum viable product documentation, system requirements, and test procedures.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills for multidisciplinary teams, stakeholders, and external partners.
- Flexibility to travel regionally for 0‑25% of work time; must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Knowledge of LiDAR technology, laser beam propagation, signal processing, and data analysis.
- Experience with product development life cycles, from design to prototyping to testing to productization.
- Experience developing Python scripts.
- Experience with scientific equipment.

The annual compensation range is $91,200 – $114,000, with additional performance‑driven salary considerations.
