This role is a Principal Hardware Engineer focused on Digital Health, located on site in Mounds View, Minnesota or Lafayette, Colorado.
Job OverviewThe Principal Hardware Engineer will support Digital Health R&D projects as a Systems Hardware Engineer, driving the development and integration of hardware solutions for Health Cast Acute Care and Monitoring. The role requires design, development, verification of complex hardware systems, mentoring the engineering team, and collaborating across software, mechanical, systems, and manufacturing functions.
Responsibilities- Own hardware and electrical requirements for new and existing products.
- Develop and review schematics, PCB layouts, and component selection.
- Provide technical direction for hardware platforms, ensuring performance, reliability, manufacturing scalability.
- Conduct hardware debugging, verification, and system integration activities.
- Drive root‑cause investigations and resolve complex technical issues.
- Own electrical testing deliverables on new and sustaining products.
- Serve as subject‑matter expert for electrical and hardware design challenges.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements to hardware architectures.
- Collaborate closely with software, mechanical, systems, and manufacturing teams to deliver integrated solutions.
- Manage ambiguity, work autonomously, and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Support DH & AI initiatives and cross‑disciplinary, globally distributed teams to craft high‑quality products.
- Partner with leaders to ensure successful development, release, and launch of portfolio products.
- 10+ years of experience in the medical device industry in systems, digital, or software development with a proven record of accomplishment.
- Strong electrical engineering fundamentals and extensive hands‑on hardware development experience.
- Previous involvement in 5+ major product or portfolio releases.
- Proficiency with international standards (IEC 60601‑1, 60601‑2, CC 47CF$, ANSI C63.27, etc.).
- Knowledge of wireless technologies, batteries, and battery‑powered systems.
- Experience with CAD and related tools for schematics and PCB design.
- Experience describing patient‑contacting devices and understanding applicable regulations.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders.
- Experience with Agile methodology is a plus.
- Experience in a regulated product industry is a plus.
- Ability to quickly grasp complex system behaviors and design constraints.
