Duties

  • As senior specialist, the incumbent performs professional engineering work with primary responsibility for planning, coordinating, preparing, and reviewing structural engineering, design, and technical specifications.
  • Resolve complicated engineering problems and makes decisions on the design, analysis and evaluation of project features.
  • As Senior Structural Engineer, plans for the accomplishment of projects in terms of scope, schedule and budget.
  • Provide input to the Project Management Plan and, when assigned as Lead/Project Engineer, coordinates those aspects of assigned projects between various technical disciplines.
  • Coordinate the overall planning and development of technical products(plans, specifications, reports, etc.).
  • Render technical advice to higher level management, District personnel, and Architect-Engineer (AE) firms, where applicable to establish basic policies and procedures on structural engineering and design matters.
  • Develop structural designs. Personally performs the more complex or controversial phases of design work. In general, the work requires technical skill, adaptation and special knowledge of precedents, techniques, or procedures.
  • As a program manager, incumbent is responsible for the planning, execution and reporting of the program in accordance with applicable law and regulation.

Basic Requirement For The Civil Engineering (Structural), 0810 Series
  • Bachelor's Degree in professional engineering. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics;

    (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. OR
  • Combination of

    Education and Experience:

    College-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following:
  • Professional registration or licensure
    - Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
