Job Description & How to Apply Below

Our client, a manufacturer of telecommunications and infrastructure solutions, is seeking an Active Cabinet Power Engineer to design and develop electrical power systems for outdoor equipment cabinets.

This role will serve as a technical expert in telecom power, supporting new solutions developed in response to customer and market requirements. The engineer will design complete AC and DC power architectures, manage product compliance, and help move cabinet solutions from initial design through manufacturing, installation, and field acceptance.

This is an individual contributor opportunity for an electrical engineer who can independently solve complex technical problems while collaborating with mechanical engineering, product management, applications engineering, customers, and other internal teams.

The Environment

The company designs and manufactures infrastructure products used in telecommunications, broadband, and data center applications.

The Active Cabinet Power Engineer will support outdoor systems that combine electrical power, battery backup, cooling, protection, and telecommunications equipment. This person will have the opportunity to see products through the full development process while helping create reliable, scalable solutions for demanding operating environments.

Key Focus Areas
  • Design power systems for outdoor telecommunications cabinets based on customer and market requirements.

VDC rectifier systems, AC UPS systems, battery strings, distribution bays, and grounding schemes.
  • Develop AC power designs from utility service entry through panel boards, automatic transfer switches, and primary distribution.
  • Ensure electrical systems are designed for reliability, resiliency, redundancy, and future product enhancements.
  • Create one-line diagrams, wiring schematics, load calculations, site layout drawings, and bills of material.
  • Specify and evaluate rectifiers, batteries, inverters, breakers, fuses, surge protection devices, and related power components.
  • Manage UL, CE, CSA, and NOM compliance for active cabinet products.
  • Ensure designs meet NEC, IEEE, Telcordia, customer, and other applicable requirements.
  • Evaluate grounding, bonding, surge suppression, load balancing, power factor, and energy efficiency.
  • Collaborate with product management, mechanical design, and applications engineering to integrate power systems into cabinet architecture.
  • Conduct design reviews with internal stakeholders, customers, and technical teams to support manufacturability.
  • Provide technical guidance during customer installation, commissioning, and acceptance testing.
  • Perform thermal validation and evaluate system performance in outdoor operating conditions.
  • Maintain design documentation libraries and update as‑built drawings.
  • Support remote power monitoring, telemetry, and building management system integration when required.
  • Work with utility providers, permitting agencies, and generator backup systems as needed.
What Success Looks Like

Success in this role includes:

  • Reliable and compliant power systems that meet customer and market requirements.
  • Electrical designs that can be manufactured, installed, commissioned, and maintained efficiently.
  • Strong integration between electrical, mechanical, thermal, battery, and cabinet systems.
  • Accurate technical documentation that supports manufacturing and field deployment.
  • Effective collaboration with customers, suppliers, and cross‑functional teams.
  • New cabinet solutions delivered on schedule and designed to support future product development.
  • Creative, practical solutions to complex power and infrastructure challenges.
