Post-Doctoral Associate – Department of Neuroscience at the University of Minnesota. The Integrated Circuit Neuroscience (ICN) labs, led by Drs. Madhu Kannan and Ganesh Vasan, are seeking two postdoctoral associates.

The candidate will be trained in techniques spanning protein engineering, synthetic biology, cellular‑resolution voltage or calcium imaging in rodents during attentional or virtual‑navigation paradigms, targeted gene perturbation, and single‑cell transcriptomic assays. The role includes participation in project conception, data acquisition, analysis, and dissemination; training graduate and undergraduate students; collaborating with other labs testing our GEVIs; and pursuing early‑career fellowships.

• Develop and implement engineered genetically encoded voltage indicators (GEVIs) for single‑neuron, single‑spike resolution recordings in behaving animals.
• Apply advanced optical tools and multipopulation voltage imaging to study genetically defined neuronal populations in rodent models of perceptual function and dysfunction.
• Conduct stereotactic rodent surgeries, including intracranial viral‑vector infusions and optical window implantations.
• Perform live‑cell/animal fluorescence imaging, slice electrophysiology, and other relevant neuroscientific assays.
• Analyze data and prepare manuscripts, conference presentations, and training materials.
• Mentor students and collaborate across the department and external research teams.

• Ph.D. in life sciences or engineering with a strong background in molecular, cellular, or systems neuroscience.
• Experience with live‑cell/live‑animal fluorescence imaging, slice electrophysiology, or molecular biology/protein biochemistry.
• Prior experience with stereotactic surgeries, viral vector infusions, optical window implantation, and/or animal behavior.
• First‑author publications and conference presentations demonstrating an excellent track record.
• Knowledge of programming languages such as MATLAB or Python and statistical software such as Prism.

Pay Range: $62,232 to $70,344 per year (NIH Stipend Levels); depending on education, qualifications, and experience.
