We’re hiring a Facilities Technician to work onsite in Plymouth
, ensuring all environmental conditions are maintained at all times across critical building systems
. You’ll carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) plus reactive and breakdown works across mechanical and electrical systems.
As Facilities Technician, you’ll be hands-on with day-to-day building services operations, fault finding, and safe delivery of maintenance activities in a live, critical environment.
Key responsibilities- Complete reactive tasks across the building and proactively highlight improvement opportunities
- Carry out PPM, reactive and breakdown maintenance across mechanical and electrical systems
- Ensure suitable spares are available; provide parts lists and estimated timescales for remedial works
- Communicate site updates where required (e.g., planned works, remedials, access requirements)
- Maintain a safe and healthy working environment, including correct use of PPE
- Keep plant rooms secure (locked) and maintained in a clean, tidy condition
- Supervise and monitor subcontractors while they are onsite
- Support holiday/sickness cover at short notice and remain flexible with working patterns
- Ensure assigned tasks are actioned and completed with appropriate H&S awareness
- Operate a Permit to Work system in line with site Health & Safety procedures
- Remain flexible later in the day in the event of an emergency or if a critical alarm appears on the BMS
- Use computers confidently for email communication and to quote/order parts
You should be able to demonstrate relevant knowledge of:
- HV and LV electrical services
- AHUs
, pumps and motors - Fault finding using the BMS and current alarm data
- Completed an apprenticeship and hold a Level 3 technical/vocational qualification (or Level 3 Diploma) in a relevant discipline
- Knowledge of electrical systems, BMS systems, HVAC, boilers/boiler control systems, and emergency lighting
- Fundamental understanding of mechanical, electrical and other utility systems
- Up to 2 years’ electrical facilities experience
, with strong flexibility and a practical, improvement-minded approach - Experience in facilities equipment fault finding and maintenance activities
- Strong interpersonal skills and self-motivated
- Good report writing skills and PC literate
- Able to assess urgency and impact (e.g., safety-critical vs routine maintenance)
- City & Guilds 2391 / 2394 / 2395 or BS 7671 (18th Edition)
