Role DescriptionThis full-time, on-site role is based in Plymouth and covers both Road Marking Chargehand and 2nd Man responsibilities. The charge hand will lead a small road marking crew, plan daily tasks, organize materials and equipment, and ensure work is completed safely, on time, and to specification. Both the charge hand and 2nd man will assist with setting out road markings, operating or supporting the operation of road marking plant and heavy equipment, loading materials, and maintaining tools and vehicles in good working order.
Daily duties include following traffic management plans, adhering to health and safety procedures, completing basic job records, and communicating effectively with team members, supervisors, and, where necessary, clients or the public. The role involves working outdoors in varied weather, occasional early starts or late finishes, and contributing flexibly to other maintenance tasks as required.
- Strong supervisory skills to lead and coordinate a small crew, allocate tasks, and monitor quality and safety on site.
- Experience working with heavy equipment, plant, or road marking machinery, including safe operation and routine checks.
- Clear and professional communication skills, with the ability to follow instructions, complete basic paperwork, and interact respectfully with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Practical skills relevant to site work, such as setting out, or similar trade abilities that support installation and layout tasks.
- Understanding of workplace health and safety practices, including PPE use, traffic management, and working near live traffic.
- Ability to work outdoors in all seasons, handle manual tasks, and remain attentive to detail over extended periods.
- Full UK driving licence and HGV and road safety certifications (e.g., CSCS, NVQ, or similar) are advantageous.
