Job Description & How to Apply Below
Location:
Plymouth
Contract:
Permanent, 45 hours per week Mon – Fri (no weekends)
Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 + optional overtime paid at time and a half and company van
Our client is a well-established civil engineering and drainage specialist with decades of experience delivering major infrastructure projects across the South West. Their fleet is growing, and so is their brand-new, in-house vehicle workshop in Plymouth. That’s created a new role for an experienced commercial vehicle technician.
You’ll join a team of technicians covering both LCVs and HGVs, with a real mix of experience, from long-serving hands to newly qualified technicians. The workshop is run by managers who came up through the tools themselves. They’re down to earth, good fun to work with and genuinely look after their people.
You’ll work with state-of-the-art equipment, looking after the light commercial side of the fleet. It’s a fleet you’ll get to know properly, not an endless queue of strangers’ vehicles.
The Role
* Servicing, maintenance and repairs on Ford Transits, Peugeot Boxers and other light commercials
* Diagnostics and fault-finding, both mechanical and electrical, using Texa and Bosch equipment
* Inspections and scheduled maintenance, keeping the fleet safe, compliant and on the road
* Occasional breakdown repairs across the South West, always in your company van and never your own car
* Accurate job cards, service records and inspection reports on a tablet
* Working both independently and collaboratively within a team, able to share ideas and
* knowledge
About You
* At least 5 years’ experience as a vehicle technician. You’ll be trusted to work on your own from day one.
* NVQ Level 3 (or City & Guilds equivalent) in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
* Excellent diagnostics. You find the real fault and fix it properly, not just enough to get the vehicle out of the door.
* A commercial main dealer background (Ford, Peugeot, Volvo, Iveco or similar) is ideal. Large in-house fleet workshops will also be considered.
* A structured, safety-first approach. You follow the procedure, do it by the book and do it right first time. Quick fixes and workarounds aren’t how this workshop runs.
* A full UK driving licence.
* Air con certification is a bonus.
Why Apply?
* £45,000–£50,000 depending on experience
* No weekends. Overtime is there if you want it, at time and a half, but never expected.
* Company van
* A brand-new workshop with modern equipment
* Free HGV training if you’d like to add it to your skill set. You don’t need HGV experience to apply.
* Room to grow. As the workshop expands, more senior roles are expected to open up.
* Pension, life assurance at 4x salary, a healthcare cash plan, an employee assistance programme with GP access, and enhanced family leave
