The business is continuing to grow and is looking for a skilled, hands-on mechanic with strong diagnostic and fault-finding abilities to join its existing team.

The Vehicle Technician / LCV Mechanic Role

You’ll be responsible for servicing, maintaining, diagnosing and repairing a range of light commercial vehicles, including Ford Transits, Peugeot Boxers and similar vans.

Working within an established workshop team, you’ll carry out a mixture of routine servicing, mechanical repairs and more complex diagnostic work, ensuring vehicles are maintained to a high standard and faults are identified and resolved effectively.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Carrying out servicing, maintenance and repairs on light commercial vehicles
  • Diagnosing mechanical, electrical and electronic vehicle faults
  • Using diagnostic equipment to identify faults and determine appropriate repairs
  • Completing repairs to engines, gearboxes, clutches, brakes, suspension and steering systems
  • Identifying the root cause of mechanical and electrical faults and ensuring effective repairs
  • Carrying out vehicle inspections, preventative maintenance and MOT preparation
  • Maintaining accurate servicing, inspection and repair records
  • Ensuring vehicles meet required safety and roadworthiness standards
  • Supporting other technicians and contributing to the efficient running of the workshop
  • Occasionally attending vehicle breakdowns and carrying out repairs at customer locations
  • Maintaining high standards of health and safety, workmanship and workshop organisation
Vehicle Technician / LCV Mechanic Essential Skills
  • Previous experience working as a Vehicle Technician, LCV Mechanic, Commercial Vehicle Technician or similar
  • Ideally five years’ hands-on vehicle maintenance and repair experience
  • Experience working within a commercial garage, dealership or fleet maintenance workshop
  • NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, City andamp;
    Guilds or equivalent qualification
  • Strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic and fault-finding skills
  • Experience servicing and repairing light commercial vehicles
  • Confidence using vehicle diagnostic equipment and interpreting fault codes
  • Ability to diagnose complex faults and carry out repairs independently
  • Good understanding of vehicle safety, maintenance standards and workshop procedures
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Willingness to attend occasional breakdowns and off-site repairs

Experience working on Ford Transits, Peugeot Boxers or similar commercial vehicles would be particularly advantageous, alongside familiarity with Bosch, Texa or other vehicle diagnostic systems.

This role could also be particularly relevant to service leavers and veterans from the REME, Royal Marines or wider Armed Forces with experience in vehicle maintenance, mechanical repairs and fault diagnosis.

Candidates from HGV maintenance backgrounds are also encouraged to apply where they have relevant light commercial vehicle experience.
