Position: Paving Foreperson - IMC Pocatello, ID

Position Overview

The Paving Foreperson is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the asphalt paving crews. This position will primarily perform supervisory duties, but on rare occasions may assist with general laborer, equipment operation, and maintenance tasks as needed. The position will report directly to the Paving Superintendent.

Key Responsibilities
  • Be the site safety champion: ensure the safety of all crew members and the public who may interact with the job. Follow and enforce company policies and procedures with all crew personnel and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate and plan daily work activities, set production targets, organize the job site, read plans and work orders, interpret specifications, and ensure overall quality of the finished product.
  • Communicate with customers, inspectors, coworkers, and the public in a positive and friendly manner.
  • Supervise and schedule work crews.
  • Coordinate quality‑control testing as required.
  • Organize job‑site goals, timelines, and budgets.
  • Order required supplies and asphalt materials and coordinate with grade crews, trucking, and traffic control as needed.
  • Perform field measurements, monitor job quantities, and calculate yield.
  • Drive to various job‑site locations.
  • Assist with general laborer duties as needed, which may include shoveling, laying asphalt, raking, and other tasks.
  • Assist with heavy‑equipment operation, if trained, as needed at job‑site locations.
  • Maintain time and materials records necessary to complete daily job costing.
  • Submit daily crew timecards with proper coding; record equipment hours, labor hours, and progress quantities correctly.
  • May be subject to drug testing, medical exams, and physical‑agility testing.
  • Maintain regular and timely attendance. Work schedules may fluctuate in or out of town.
Education/Experience
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred and 5-10 years of related asphalt paving experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.
Qualifications & Work Requirements
  • Thorough knowledge and previous experience of the asphalt paving industry and its means and methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and lead crew members.
  • Ability to understand plans, specifications, and grades.
  • Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, EPA, and CDL laws and procedures.
  • Must demonstrate safety awareness and comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small‑group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ration, percentage, land to draw, and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common‑sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uncomplicated written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to work well with others in a group or one‑on‑one setting.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to type and use keyboards accurately.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • A Standard Driver's License is required. A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred.
