The department chair and program director is responsible for the Idaho Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency (IAGD). The program mission statement reads:
The Idaho Advanced General Dentistry Program’s mission is to provide an outstanding educational environment where dental residents advance their knowledge and experience over that obtained in the pre-doctoral curriculum and develop a sense of personal responsibility for continued learning and constantly advancing clinical skills while providing caring, competent services to their patients. The department chair and program director is expected to participate in, appoint and oversee all operational aspects of the program.

This position is .50 FTE (20 hours per week) to 1.0 FTE (40 hours per week) depending upon the successful candidate.

• Responsible for the overall educational, clinical, operational, and accreditation oversight of the Dental Residency Program, ensuring residents achieve the competencies and proficiencies required for successful program completion.
• Develop, implement, and continuously evaluate the program curriculum, including clinical rotations, scheduling, didactic instruction, distance learning, and external clinical experiences, ensuring appropriate integration of educational and clinical components.
• Design and implement outcomes assessment processes to evaluate resident achievement, program effectiveness, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Teach didactic courses as needed and participate in at least 20% clinical teaching of dental residents.
• Provide overall leadership and accountability for the Pocatello Family Dentistry Clinic and ISU Family Dentistry Clinic in Meridian, including operational effectiveness, budgetary oversight, public service, and coordination with clinic leadership.
• Supervise and provide leadership for residency program employees, residents, and faculty, while maintaining definitive authority and responsibility for program and site activities in collaboration with Site Directors.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with the dental community, professional organizations, local and state dental societies, State Boards of Dentistry and Education, civic organizations, and other external partners.
• Lead recruitment efforts at dental schools and other appropriate venues to attract highly qualified residents and support recruitment and retention of high-quality faculty.
• Maintain full responsibility for program accreditation through the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), including preparation of self-studies, progress reports, and other required accreditation materials, and ensure ongoing compliance with CODA standards.
