Job Description
The Department of History at Idaho State University ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).) invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor. The appointment will begin in the fall semester 2026 and is renewable for up to three years. The geographic and chronological focus for this position are open, but preference will be given to scholars whose work is global in nature and addresses the history of medicine.
The candidate will broadly contribute to the Department's dynamic undergraduate and graduate curriculum, including general education history courses, established lower-division courses, and upper-division courses in their field of specialization. Idaho State is currently developing an interdisciplinary certificate in the medical humanities, and it is anticipated that the candidate will contribute courses toward it.
This position is not eligible for new visa sponsorship at this time. Candidates who already hold valid U.S. work authorization may be considered.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will teach three courses each term (fall and spring semesters). They will also have service and research obligations aligned to current university policy, which together will comprise 40 percent of the workload. Teaching will be conducted in multiple modalities, including in-seat, synchronous online, and asynchronous online formats using Canvas LMS. Service duties may include department-level program assessment and other committee work.
Minimum Qualifications
A PhD in History, though ABD candidates will be considered if the degree will be granted prior to the start of the fall semester 2026.

A PhD in History.
Additional Information

Salary will be between $61,000 and $65,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience.
