The Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections (IDJC), St. Anthony- is seeking an engaging Instructor Specialist (Teacher) to join our team. This position is located at our on‑site school Juniper Hills, a special‑purpose school accredited through Cognia at our St. Anthony Facility.

This position must attend a three-week POST academy in Meridian, Idaho. Training and time is paid by IDJC and must be completed within the first year of employment.

Responsibilities

1. Program Delivery and Coordination:

  • Participates as member of treatment team to determine treatment goals; applies and provides instruction in various educational modalities and platforms in accordance with special education, 504, and programmatic needs, as applicable; serves as liaison to assigned living unit and integrates educational programs with other treatment services; coordinates student educational goals with staff; consults with other instructors, program staff, to discuss student progress;

    consults with staff, parents, and officials regarding student management techniques, academic and behavioral progress.

2. Educational Programs:

  • Determines educational goals; plans and develops a Course of Study compatible with open-entry, open-exit practices; utilizes assessment instruments for intervention purposes; assesses student needs and capabilities; plans and implements individuals' educational plans; determines appropriate instructional methods; guides peer‑group interaction to enhance student learning and problem resolution; develops course materials; develops and implements classroom activities; evaluates student progress; meet with students regarding progress in meeting their educational goals;

    maintains records and prepares reports. Works with special education teachers to meet Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and for students who have special learning needs.

3. Student Guidance:

  • Serves as role model for appropriate social behavior; encourages and motivates students in developing self‑esteem, academic knowledge and vocational skills; instructs in living skills, fosters protection of individual rights, and ensures student safety and positive interactions; intervenes in student conflicts and confrontations; reports accidents, changes in health, and emergencies; escorts students on‑ and off‑ campus for various activities; obtains and monitors use of classroom equipment and materials;

    willingness to participate in aspects that foster the safety and security of the youth, staff and facility including assisting in searches, conducting pat searches, de‑escalating youth, and interacting with combative youth.

Please note that the person hired for this position must be willing to teach outside their content area.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Applicant must hold, or be eligible to obtain, an Idaho Education Credential in accordance with State Department of Education certification standards.
  • Meet entrance requirements established by the Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) academy for correction officers including the following:
    Be at least 21 years of age;
    Be eligible for and in good standing to obtain a POST certification within 12 months of hire;
    Possess a high school diploma, GED or equivalent;
    For those that served in the military, must have a discharge indicating honorable, uncharacterized, or general under honorable conditions.
  • Hold a current and valid driver’s license in your state of residence.
  • Be a U.S. Citizen No conviction, withheld judgment, suspicion or imposed conviction of the following:
