District ESL/Instructional Specialist

Valid Idaho Teaching Certificate

Several years of effective teaching experience

ESL, TESOL endorsement

Knowledge of another language is preferred

Strong background in teaching methods, developmentally appropriate instructional strategies, and effective classroom management

Knowledge of subject matter and effective teaching methods

Strong background in curriculum and the Idaho Core Standards

Strong background in the integration of technology with instruction

Ability to create and maintain a positive learning environment

Work well with students, staff, parents, and the public

Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to be flexible, adaptable, empathetic and to work with deadlines

Maintain confidentiality of staff and students

Knowledge and experience working with or in a bilingual/EL program; knowledgeable about data and reports required; exhibits superior organizational and communication skills; is compassionate; can provide effective collaborative and open-minded leadership; and is knowledgeable about recent research in pedagogy in the field of second language acquisition and ELL/bilingual education.

Knowledge of current trends in the area of English Language Learners

Helps establish district and school level goals for EL program

Creates relationships and an environment of trust and respect

Collaborates, supports and provides resources to teachers of EL students

Coordinate testing and placement of all EL students

Collaborate with counselors on coordination of schedules and 4-year academic planning for students in the program

Coordinate the administration of required language proficiency and academic achievement tests for placement and ongoing monitoring of student progress and determining when student is to be exited from program

Compile and maintain a profile summary (record of achievement and progress, grades, attendance, ISATs, ACCESS etc.) for each student

Gather and report data for annual required reports (English Learner Plans, Screeners, WIDA, ACCESS, Grades, Attendance, Grants, annual EL Program Report, etc.)

Teach EL classes in the program as needed

Provide Staff Development within the school, EL program and district pertaining to ELL students

Establish and maintain regular communication with parents of students in the program

Serve as liaison between students in the program and/or their parents with staff and community services

Facilitate workshops for parents and participates in the PAC meetings

Collaborate with District 251 administration and staff on behalf of ELL students (IEPs, LEPs, Student Support Teams, PLCs, and coaching cycles)

Supervise and assign duties to the ESL paras

Coordinates and organizes some activities outside of the school day. (Summer School, College and Career events, PAC meetings etc.)

Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information

Other duties as assigned
