Youth Mentor
Through the Gem State Public Health program, members will conduct needs assessments regarding collaborations and partnerships, and recruit potential partnerships as well as coordinate meetings, design training materials, and provide other support to public health agencies. Members will be trained in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), Sources of Strength (SOS), and/or safeTALK. Members will coordinate ASIST, SOS and/or safeTALK trainings for community members to increase the number of suicide prevention interventionists throughout Idaho.
The program will offer members academic advising and the opportunity to explore degree options that focus on public health.

Member DutiesThe Youth Mentor will expand and enhance the capacity of existing public health programs and services by aiding and achieving several public health related program goals including decreased drug and alcohol problems, better mental health, stronger academic achievement, increased graduation rates, and increased college and career readiness. Responsibilities include providing youth enrichment and mental health centered classes; tutor and supervise learning after school or during school hours with hybrid learning;
increase mental health awareness and education; accompany high-risk youth on service projects in the community; chaperone SAFE camp and sober weekend activities for local youth; provide Youth mentorship and connect youth with mental wellness community resources like 988, and Teen Hope programs.
