Role Description

The Designated School Official (DSO) is a full-time, on-site position based in Pocatello, , responsible for supporting international students and ensuring institutional compliance with federal regulations. Day-to-day duties include managing and updating student records in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), processing and maintaining required immigration documentation, and monitoring enrollment status and eligibility for benefits such as work authorization.

The DSO collaborates with campus departments to provide accurate guidance on immigration-related policies, advises students on maintaining status and understanding university requirements, and participates in orientation and workshops for international learners. The role also involves staying current with regulatory changes, maintaining secure and organized records, preparing reports, and contributing to procedures that support international student success and institutional compliance.

Qualifications
  • Regulatory and compliance skills, including familiarity with SEVIS procedures, U.S. immigration regulations for F-1 students, and accurate documentation management.
  • Student advising and support skills, such as providing guidance on maintaining status, explaining university policies, and offering culturally sensitive assistance to diverse populations.
  • Administrative and organizational skills, including detailed record-keeping, data entry accuracy, time management, and the ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills, including clear written and verbal communication, professional correspondence, and effective collaboration with faculty, staff, and external agencies.
  • Technology skills, including proficiency with office productivity software, student information systems, and secure data handling; experience with higher education platforms is beneficial.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as education, international studies, social sciences, or a related discipline; prior experience working with international students or in a higher education setting is preferred.
  • Ability to work on-site in Pocatello, , maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and adapt to evolving federal and institutional policies.
