The Malt Process Supervisor is the malting process expert onsite. This role is accountable for process optimization, recipe changes, malting data management and adherence to safety, quality, and food safety standards. The Malt Process Supervisor is responsible for achieving production targets, supporting sustainability goals, fostering a Zero Harm culture, and coaching teams in alignment with the company’s core values:

Essential Functions
  • Lead day-to-day safe operations, ensuring compliance with corporate, regulatory, and food safety standards.
  • Champion a Zero Harm culture through visible safety leadership and proactive hazard management.
  • Prepare, analyze, and interpret production data, reports, and analytics to guide decision-making.
  • Coordinate process schedules to align with equipment maintenance requirements.
  • Provide training on malting process and development of reaction plans to control process variables.
  • Lead root cause analysis actions for upset conditions and process incidents.
  • Oversee malting processes to ensure efficiency, product quality, and cost control.
  • Monitor budgets, forecasts, and operational performance metrics; implement action plans to achieve financial and production targets.
  • Develop process PI’s to track and improve malt quality performance KPI’s.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with staff, fostering collaboration, accountability, and engagement.
  • Lead or support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, sustainability, and operational performance.
  • Manage, coach, and develop process team members.
  • Conduct performance reviews and support employee development.
  • Ensure process personnel are trained and competent in malting operations.
  • Partner with peer supervisors and the Plant Manager to achieve plant safety, quality, production cost, and employee engagement objectives.
  • Share accountability for overall plant performance and operational results.
Knowledge

Skills and Abilities
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, Food Science, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years supervisory or management experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in grain handling, food processing, or manufacturing operations.
  • Equivalent relevant experience in production or grain handling may be considered.
  • Knowledge of malt and barley analytics is required.
  • Strong knowledge of workplace safety in a manufacturing environment, with proven ability to lead a Zero Harm culture.
  • Thorough understanding of HACCP, food safety standards, and regulatory compliance.
  • Skilled in team leadership, coaching, and conflict resolution with demonstrated success in building high-performing teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; capable of making timely, effective decisions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with production management and inventory control systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with labor relations preferred.
Working Conditions
  • Combination of office and production floor environment.
  • Exposure to dust, noise, heat, and varying weather conditions.
  • Requires use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Must be able to access multiple levels of facilities, including climbing stairs and ladders.
  • May require extended or weekend hours to meet operational needs.
  • This role is considered safety sensitive and may be subject to drug and alcohol testing.
