Through the Idaho Health Corps Ameri Corps program, Idaho State University's Institute of Rural Health places members across the state to address the health needs of Idaho's low-income children and families in rural, under-resourced areas. Ameri Corps members will be responsible for providing health education and health screening activities, which will result in improved access to health care in Idaho. In addition, the Ameri Corps members will leverage additional community volunteers who will be engaged in assisting the Ameri Corps members at their placement sites.
Many Idaho residents are from rural, low income, and under-resourced areas and face significant health care challenges. Families from low-income backgrounds are often uninsured, may have language differences, and often lack access to health care due to lack of transportation, income or limited health literacy. As a result, the Idaho Health Corps Ameri Corps member service locations stretch across most areas of the state.
Duties
The Ameri Corps member will serve with Envision to provide health resources and increase access to care. The Ameri Corps Member will promote health, wellness, and strengthen Idaho support systems. The member will contribute to access to care and clinical support. This role directly supports priority populations while helping improve health outcomes, specifically related to vision care, and population well-being. By serving at Envision, the member will promote overall wellness and provide important community resources to priority populations.
Members gain valuable professional skills and experience in healthcare, education, nonprofit operations, and engagement. Members do not participate in prohibited activities. Members do not supplement, duplicate, or displace staff members bers with this program have recurring access to vulnerable populations.
