American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg night shift position requiring prior travel experience and a 1:6 patient ratio.
Details- Med/Surg unit with a 1:6 patient ratio
- Night shift, 3x12 hours (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
- Patient population includes sepsis, CIWA, confusion, AMS, COPD, post-op care, AKI, trauma, respiratory failure, bowel obstruction, pyelonephritis, cardiac conditions, diabetes, GI conditions, isolation, and SI with medical indications
- Uses Epic charting system
- Required to work varied shifts including weekends and holidays
- Active RN license (State or Compact) required in hand at time of consideration
- BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience preferred
- Prior travel nursing experience preferred
- Epic charting experience preferred
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Trauma Level II experience preferred
- Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, port access, blood product administration, central line and PICC line management, and peripheral IV care
- Respiratory skills including BiPAP/CPAP, chest tube management, HFNC, ABG interpretation, tracheostomy care, and oxygen administration
- GI skills including bowel obstruction management, colostomy/ileostomy care, and feeding tube management
- Renal skills including CBI and pre/post hemodialysis management
- Neuro/psych skills including CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, substance withdrawal, and TBI care
- Experience administering heparin, insulin, and PCA medications
- Knowledge of isolation precautions, PPE, and wound care/wound vac management
- Experience in MS/Tele, orthopedics (including ortho trauma and total joint replacement), cardiovascular (post angiogram, post MI), plastics, and endocrine/metabolic care preferred
- Familiarity with rapid response and code team protocols
- Apply the nursing process across all age groups from infants to geriatrics
- Document care thoroughly in accordance with regulatory and hospital standards
- Maintain professional development and clinical competencies
- Work effectively in a busy, fast-paced environment with evolving patient safety practices
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills required
- Team-oriented approach with collaborative decision-making expected
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- Former staff must wait at least one year before returning as a traveler
- No more than 3 days of RTO will be auto-approved, and no RTO is permitted during the first week of orientation
- Travel pairs or groups are not accepted for this position
