Petroleum Geochemist

About the Role

Our client is looking for a skilled Petroleum Geochemist to join their integrated geoscience team in Polokwane . This role is essential for understanding the origin, migration, and accumulation of hydrocarbons in exploration and producing fields. You will be responsible for analyzing geochemical data from oil, gas, and rock samples to provide critical insights for prospect evaluation and field development. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of organic geochemistry and its application within the Oil & Gas industry.

• Analyze and interpret geochemical data from source rocks, oils, and natural gases. Determine hydrocarbon generation, expulsion, migration, and accumulation pathways. Assess the maturity of source rocks and predict the type and quantity of hydrocarbons generated. Calibrate geological models with geochemical constraints. Collaborate with exploration and production teams to integrate geochemical interpretations into field development plans. Contribute to the development and application of new geochemical methodologies.

• Ph.D. or Master's degree in Geochemistry, Organic Geochemistry, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in petroleum geochemistry , preferably within the Oil & Gas industry.
• Proficiency in geochemical analytical techniques and data interpretation software.
• Strong knowledge of organic matter kinetics, biomarker analysis, and stable isotope geochemistry.
• Experience with basin modeling software is a plus.
