Position Title
Staff Accountant
Job SummaryTo support the activities in the Accounting department by assisting in daily and monthly functions of the department. Prepare and process journal entries, and other accounting duties as assigned. Review requests from campus departments for proper support, process those requests, and ensure that entries and other requests follow University policies and applicable regulations. Train campus community on how to properly submit requests and how to monitor activity on self‑service Banner.
Participate in cross‑training within Accounting department, and serve as backup for other accounting staff for daily cash reports or other items.
- Monitor Finance email inbox for transfer requests, new fund requests, user access requests, and other requests.
- Review such requests for proper documentation, approvals, accuracy, and compliance with applicable University, State and IRS guidelines and policies.
- Process those requests, and/or route them to appropriate personnel for processing.
- Prepare and submit recurring as well as ad‑hoc journal entries and feeds received from the campus community on a timely basis.
- Provide training to campus community on proper submission of transfer requests, new fund requests, and other requests.
- Monitor non‑operating funds for issues such as deficit balances, dormant balances, outdated user access, etc.
- Work with colleges or departments to resolve identified issues and/or close out funds that are no longer necessary on a timely basis.
- Participate in monthly and annual close process, including completing duties on a timely basis and recording applicable sign‑offs on the closing schedule.
- Participate in cross‑training with other accounting staff, and coordinate with accounting staff for serving as backup when needed, including for the daily cash report.
- Monitor and update public Policy and Procedure documents, in collaboration with the Controller and other team members as applicable.
- Maintain and update, as necessary, internal standard operating procedure documents (SOPs) related to job duties.
- Assist with special projects related to the accounting department relating to the closing process, maintaining or updating the General Accounting webpage, and other special projects as assigned.
- Respond to account or fund balance inquiries from various campus departments, and also provide training on financial queries to increase self‑sufficiency of campus departments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or related field, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Minimum of 3 years accounting experience.
- Previous higher‑education or not‑for‑profit accounting experience.
- Experience using Ellucian Banner.

Expected Pay Scale:
Minimum $75,000.00 Annually – Maximum $80,000.00 Annually.
