Position Summary

Work Type: Instructional Faculty – Tenured/Tenure-Track;
Location: Pomona.

Tenure‑track faculty position (Assistant Professor) in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, College of Environmental Design, Cal Poly Pomona. Salary range $86,328 – $90,648.

Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate urban design studios and a graduate‑level urban design course.
  • Develop and teach a community planning studio or other courses as needed.
  • Conduct research in urban design and related disciplines, emphasizing sustainable, climate‑responsive, and community‑engaged work.
  • Mentor students in visualization, representation, and design thinking, supporting first‑generation and underrepresented students.
  • Participate in departmental, college, and university service, including curriculum development.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in urban design, architecture, landscape architecture, or closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated expertise in urban design evidenced by a portfolio of design work, built projects, or research‑driven practice.
  • Commitment to teaching excellence, especially in studio‑based or project‑based learning, and contributions to curriculum development.
Preferred / Desired Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in urban planning or related field with a strong focus on urban design (ABD will be considered).
  • Experience teaching urban design studios and potential to teach a range of curriculum courses.
  • Evidence of scholarly or professional work in urban design, including publications, built work, competitions, or funded research.
  • Experience mentoring and advising first‑generation and historically underrepresented students.
