Position Overview

The Department of Aerospace Engineering at Cal Poly Pomona invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor position in Fall 2027. The successful candidate will specialize in Autonomous UAS and Geographical Information Systems, with a focus on remote sensing, AI/ML, and autonomous systems.

Responsibilities
  • Teach lower‑, upper‑, and graduate‑level courses in aerospace engineering, specializing in UAS autonomy, feedback control, aircraft stability & control, and remote sensing applications.
  • Develop and teach courses and learning experiences in UAS autonomy, GIS, Artificial Intelligence, geospatial data analysis, automated data acquisition, Geospatial AI, photogrammetry, and mapping.
  • Support the department’s senior‑project sequence and other project‑based learning activities.
  • Establish an active scholarly program, pursue external funding, and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Participate in departmental, college, and university service and collaborate with other colleges to develop new courses, minors, and external programs in autonomous UAS systems and remote sensing.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Requirements: Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Remote Sensing, Geospatial Analysis, or a closely aligned field, conferred by the start date.
  • Preferred/Desired:
  • Academic experience in UAS autonomy, aircraft stability & control, avionics systems, mission planning, and sensing & data acquisition.
  • Demonstrated teaching ability for undergraduate and graduate aerospace courses and curriculum development.
  • Publications, external funding, and student mentoring experience.
  • Industry, government, or professional experience in aerospace or related areas.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering or related ABET‑accredited program.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
