Department of Liberal Studies, College of Education and Integrative Studies, California State Polytechnic University, Pomona invites applications for Part‑Time Lecturer positions in Liberal Studies and Interdisciplinary General Education programs.

About the Department of Liberal Studies

Liberal Studies is one of two undergraduate departments in the College of Education and Integrative Studies. The department offers an undergraduate degree and an Interdisciplinary General Education program that emphasizes experiential learning, interdisciplinarity, and social justice.

The Position

The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, and positions are filled as needed based on student enrollment and funding. The Fall term is from late August to mid‑December, the Spring term from mid‑January to mid‑May, and summer sessions may also be available.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Terminal Master’s Degree, Ed.D., or Ph.D., including ABD candidates in an academic discipline or interdisciplinary studies.
  • Evidence of recent, strong competence in undergraduate teaching—at least four non‑consecutive terms using an interdisciplinary approach.
  • Evidence of proven ability to teach using active and experiential learning, critical theory, and social justice pedagogy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Evidence of ability to create a sense of community and strong rapport with students.
  • Proficiency with instructional technology (Canvas, social media, iPads, etc.).
  • Ability to teach in different modalities (face‑to‑face, hybrid, synchronous).
  • Strong sense of collegiality.
  • Ability to assess teaching effectiveness, receive feedback, and revise instruction.

  • Writing and composition
  • Ancient, medieval, and/or early modern history and culture (globally conceived)
  • Cultural history

Responsibilities
  • Teach assigned courses and provide weekly office hours.
  • Courses may be scheduled day, evening, or weekend times.
  • Teaching may be in-person, hybrid synchronous, synchronous, or asynchronous formats.
Salary and Benefit Information

Initial rank and salary are based on professional experience and education. The base salary (prorated to units) is paid in six monthly payments for a full semester. The estimation is up to $6,221 per month. The full compensation package includes medical, dental, vision, retirement, and tuition assistance for employees and qualifiers.
