College of Science – SCI Courses
California State Polytechnic University, Pomona
The College of Science at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona invites applications for Part‑Time Lecturer positions to teach its college‑level SCI courses, including the College of Science First‑Year Experience sequence. This is a college‑wide pool open to qualified instructors across the natural, physical, life, and mathematical sciences; it is not tied to a single department.
About Cal Poly PomonaPomona is one of three polytechnic universities in the 22‑campus California State University system and among 12 such institutions nationwide. Since its founding in 1938, Cal Poly Pomona students participate in an integrative experiential learning education that is inclusive, relevant, and values diverse perspectives and experiences. The university is known for its learn‑by‑doing approach and Teacher Scholar Model. The campus is situated on 1,400 acres of historic land and is located on the territorial and homelands of the Tongva and Tataavium people, the traditional caretakers of Tovaangar.
Cal Poly Pomona has nearly 30,000 students taught and mentored by more than 1,400 faculty in 54 bachelor's, 29 master’s, 11 credential and certificate, and one doctorate program in educational leadership.
The College of Science prepares students to apply scientific knowledge with purpose and impact, advancing Cal Poly Pomona’s “Become by doing” philosophy. From first year through graduation, students engage directly in scientific practice, designing and conducting experiments, working with advanced laboratory and field instrumentation, and applying data, computation, and theory to address real‑world scientific and societal challenges. Experiential learning is central to the college’s identity, integrating hands‑on inquiry, research, and problem‑based learning throughout the curriculum.
The college’s SCI courses serve students from across all College of Science departments and emphasize interdisciplinary problem solving, scientific reasoning, quantitative and data literacy, communication, and the academic skills that help students thrive as university learners. The First‑Year Experience sequence is a college‑wide learning community that introduces new students to academic expectations, intellectual challenges, and resources while connecting them to faculty mentors and peers early in their academic journey.
