Position OverviewCal Poly Pomona invites applications for a tenure‑track faculty position in the Department of Sociology with a focus on social work. The successful candidate will teach courses in social work—particularly micro‑level practice—and will contribute to the development of the Sociology Department’s BSW degree program, as well as to research, service, and leadership within the department and the broader university community.
Responsibilities- Teach four courses per semester (one course release in each of the first two years).
- Develop and lecture a social work curriculum, including the BSW program.
- Advise undergraduate and graduate students.
- Engage in scholarly research that supports student research and contributes to the department’s academic mission.
- Serve on departmental and university committees, providing service to the department, university, and community.
- Ph.D. in Social Work, Sociology, or a related social science field from an accredited university, completed by the start of the appointment.
- Master’s in Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE‑accredited university.
- University teaching experience as instructor of record or teaching assistant.
- Three references with names and contact information.
- Evidence of ability to teach across the department’s curriculum.
- Evidence of teaching excellence through student evaluations, pedagogical innovation, and commitment to pedagogy.
- Active scholarly agenda that encourages student research.
- Experience advising and mentoring a diverse undergraduate student body.
- Experience in curriculum and/or program development.
- At least two years of post‑MSW practice experience.
- Cover letter (maximum 2 pages) describing interest, experience, and how the minimum and preferred qualifications are met.
- Curriculum vitae.
- Teaching philosophy statement (maximum 2 pages).
- Research statement (maximum 2 pages).
- Unofficial undergraduate and graduate transcripts.
- Names and contact information for three references.
Semi‑finalists will complete a virtual interview. Finalists will be invited to an in‑person interview and must provide official transcripts, three letters of reference, a teaching demonstration, and a research presentation.
