Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Community Outreach, to represent the College of Optometry to community-based organizations

Skills and Abilities

Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • The ability to effectively, professionally and tactfully interact and communicate with community partners and members of the public
  • The ability to manage projects and assignments in an efficient and effective manner
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office, the internet and email.
  • The ability to demonstrate a commitment to working in an organization that values and promotes humanism.
Required Qualifications Education
  • Student enrolled in the College of Optometry in good academic standing
  • Student must meet Federal Work Study ( FWS ) qualifications, which are:
    • Upon hire, ability to provide proof of ability to work in U.S.
    • Must have a completed current FAFSA .
    • Must have remaining financial aid unmet need.
    • Must be in good academic standing at Western University of Health Sciences.
Preferred Qualifications Experience

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide education programs to community groups.
  • Provide community programs in literacy, family literacy, and health literacy.
  • Locate appropriate educational materials from a variety of sources including online resources and health care agencies.
  • Develop educational materials such as PowerPoint presentations and handouts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. The University/College reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.
Work Schedule
  • Approximately 3 hours per week – schedule varies
