THE DEPARTMENT:The Credential Services Office (CSO) is the centralized pointofcontact for all students wishing to enter the teaching profession.
The office is responsible for collecting and processing programadmissions documents for students applying to enter the programs.
The office provides guidance and counsel to students who seek toearn both basic credentials and advanced credentials. The office is responsible for monitoring progress toward the desired credentialor certificate as well as reviewing, analyzing, evaluating, and processing applications for credentials upon completion of the program(s). The office is responsible for insuring that educatorcandidates meet all standards and processes required by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
The office is the primary source on campus for faculty, staff, and students who seekinformation regarding the credentialing process and fordisseminating new standards and practices approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC).
Evaluation & Credentialing:
- Knowledge Develop and maintain thorough and comprehensiveknowledge of all relevant credential requirements and policiesdetermined by Cal Poly Pomona Department of Education, the California State University system, and the California Commissionon Teacher Credentialing.
- The Incumbent acts as the liaison for the assigned credentialprogram faculty advisors, both within and outside the college, inworking with the assigned credential programs.
- Admissions Facilitate and complete the admissions evaluation for candidates applying to enter the credential program, including calculation of GPA, and determine if they meet all requirements in accordance with CTC, CSU, and CPP policies.
- Prepare a notification to applicants regarding the status oftheir file and individually review upon request.
- Work with program faculty to schedule program interviews for admission, and process and communicate the results of the programadmission process to candidates.
- Progress Evaluation Monitor candidates' grades and evaluations for each grading period and consistently update the files and the relevant credentialing personnel or faculty as issues arise with program completion.
- Credential Evaluation & Recommendation Independently review applications for credentials, checking for accuracy and completion of all state, CSU, and university requirements. (The incumbentassumes responsibility for final campus review of credentialapplications before recommending candidates through the CTC onlineprocess prior to recommendation for and issuance ofcredentials.)
- Communication Verify completion of program requirements to allinquiring school districts, county offices, and the CTC.
- Provide advice and evaluations to teachers trained outside
California, requesting information on the CPP program and the credentialing process. - Maintain close communication with relevant credentialingpersonnel or faculty on the status of candidates and any issues that emerge requiring program coordinator intervention.
- Maintain open, supportive, and professional communication withteacher candidates throughout the program.
- Clear Credential Evaluation Where applicable, determine eligibility for candidates who initially completed a preliminarycredential and have made application for a Clear (Tier II) credential.
- Out-of-State Evaluations Complete evaluations for CPPcredential completers requesting analysis for obtaining a teaching position out of state.
- Individually consult by phone, drop-in meetings, and scheduled appointments as well as email with CPP students, students fromother campuses, states, and countries holding all levels and typesof education certifications and endorsements.
- Provide advice on California requirements, examinations,alternative coursework requirements, and appropriate means ofsatisfying credential requirements.
- Advising Work with program coordinator and other CSO staff toprovide regularly scheduled general advising sessions toprospective credential candidates. (Conducting advising sessionsrequires thorough knowledge of campus requirements, CSU-specific requirements, and CTC requirements.)
